It's easy to get caught up in negative behaviors and attitudes. However, as Christians, we are called to a higher standard of kindness and love. God didn't create us to be evil and nasty. He made us in His image, to reflect His goodness and love to the world. Let's explore why it's important to avoid nastiness and embrace the goodness God intends for us.

Created in God's Image

The Bible tells us in Genesis 1:27, "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." This verse reminds us that we are made to reflect God's character. God is loving, kind, and good. When we act in ways that are nasty or mean, we are not living up to the image of God within us.

Love One Another

Jesus taught us to love one another. In John 13:34-35, He says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Love is the hallmark of a Christian life. When we are nasty to others, we fail to show the love that Jesus commanded us to exhibit.

The Power of Words

Our words have a great impact on others. Proverbs 15:1 says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Speaking kindly and gently can calm situations and promote peace. On the other hand, nasty words can hurt others deeply and create conflict. Let's use our words to build up, not to tear down.

Forgive as God Forgives

God calls us to forgive others as He has forgiven us. Ephesians 4:32 states, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." Holding onto nastiness and grudges can poison our hearts. Instead, we should strive to forgive and show compassion, reflecting God's forgiveness and love.

Let Your Light Shine

Jesus encouraged us to be the light of the world. In Matthew 5:16, He says, "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." By avoiding nastiness and living in kindness and love, we shine God's light in the world. Our good deeds can inspire others and bring glory to God.

God didn't create us to be nasty or evil. He made us to reflect His love and goodness. By following His teachings and embracing kindness, we can live out our faith in a way that honors Him. Let's commit to showing love, speaking gently, forgiving freely, and letting our light shine brightly. In doing so, we fulfill God's purpose for our lives and make the world a better place.
