Wear Your Faith on Your Sleeve

Therefore, God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, put on heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, accepting one another and forgiving one another if anyone has a complaint against another. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.  Above all, put on love—the perfect bond of unity. (Colossians 3:12-14 HCSB)

You’ve heard the expression “wear your heart on your sleeve”, but what about “wear your faith on your sleeve”? What if we could put on our faith, just like we put on our clothing, makeup, or accessories? Just like we put on our shoes and grab our keys before we walk out the door – what if “putting on our faith” was that simple?

Maybe faith isn’t something physical that we can put on when going out into the world, but it is something that we can show through other physical manifestations. We can put on a t-shirt that showcases a Scripture that is close to our hearts or a necklace that symbolizes God’s love. We can wear a necklace depicting a cross around our neck or carry a bag with God’s Word printed on it. These items may spark conversations that you’ve never had the courage or the opportunity to begin on your own.

A simple “I like your necklace!” could lead into the gospel story if you’re prepared to share the meaning of it. “What does that reference mean?” can lead to a Scripturally based conversation that may have never happened otherwise.

Faith is not something that we should keep hidden, only to be practiced in our private life, but something that is at the core of everything we do, say, and think – a light for all the world to see.
